Who I am
I’m Cam, an electrical engineer with a passion for home automation, DIY projects, and tools. I’ve been working in home automation for over a decade, and have been making things for the better part of twenty five years. I have worked on construction sites with Habitat for Humanity, built cabinets and woodworking projects, worked in the telecommunications industry, and worked with tech and electronics my whole life. This blog is the culmination of that experience. I’m humbled that you’re here reading this, and hope that you can find something useful for your own life by sticking around.
What is this Blog?
I created this blog to teach readers about tools, technology, making things with your hands, home automation, and electronics. I hope that you will learn which tools you should buy and how to use them in your own lives. I also hope that you will become inspired to turn your home into a smart home and delve into home automation yourself. I believe that an understanding and respect for tools and technology will enable everyone to be happier and more creative. There is a certain type of satisfaction that comes with making something yourself, and most people don’t get that sensation nearly enough.
This blog will focus on useful information and instruction to help guide you into being a more productive problem solver, a more creative person, and will enable you to experience those moments of satisfaction on a regular basis. Becoming a maker will give you the confidence and curiosity to learn new skills, and will ultimately make you a happier person.
What type of posts can I expect?
This blog is in its infancy, but I promise many more posts to come. Check out my first post, DIY Tools-Tools You Shouldn’t Be Caught Without for an example of what to expect. Future posts will include expansions on the DIY tools series, and more specific posts related to electronics and other disciplines. I will be creating many posts about home automation including why to invest in home automation, a guide to getting started in home automation, comparing different platforms and technologies, setting up your smart home, as well as specific instructional posts related to setting up Home Assistant and configuring your home to react to presence, motion, and enabling you to create DIY projects to monitor, control and automate almost any aspect of your home. I will also be creating posts on working with popular technologies like Amazon’s Alexa and also setting up a home network that is secure and ready for “Domain 2.0” and the “internet of things”.
I have a lot of material to cover, but will be posting in a regular fashion, so if the post you are hoping for isn’t here today, please be patient as it takes time to get all this content out. For any questions or recommendations of future topics to cover please reach out by commenting or contacting me via my social media links or Contact Page.
Thanks again for reading, and I hope that you stick around to see what being a maker and investing in a smart home can do for your life.
