Welcome to my about page!
My name is Cam, and I’m glad you’re here
I’ve been working with Home Automation for over a decade, and in that time I have learned a lot about electronics and having a DIY mindset. I created this blog to share my experience and knowledge with you, the reader.
I’m an Electrical Engineer by training but don’t let that dissuade you. I have been working on DIY projects including a “Can Launching Mini-Fridge” since long before going to college. Education is much less important than the ability to learn, and a willingness to try new things. I’m far more proud of the things I’ve done with my DIY mindset than any education I ever received. If you want to learn how to feel confident tackling any of the following without any prior knowledge or experience then this is the blog for you.
Street Cred:
- Installed countless light-switches, dimmers, electrical receptacles, TV’s
- Learned to fish television wires behind the wall and
subsequently learned to patch and repair drywall - Installed circuit breaker and new circuit for electric car charger
- Setup home networks for everyone I know
- Fixed a hot water heater thermocouple (I didn’t know what it was either)
- Installed and setup home security systems
- Automated all lights in my home with intelligence including
schedules, scenes, and motion/presence detection - Amateur woodworker/cabinet maker
- Created homemade water-leak sensors, LED lightstrips
and countless other DIY home electronics projects - Learned how to create in CAD software and 3D print designs
- Expert on different types of glues and adhesives
This list might seems eclectic and that’s because it is. What I hope to teach you is an ability to learn new skills and figure out problems you haven’t seen before. This might sound intimidating, but it doesn’t require prior experience; It requires an open mind and a curiosity to learn
“Curiosity is, in great and generous minds, the first passion and the last.”

All of this ranting finally leads me to the main focus of this blog… Home Automation.
I didn’t discover Home Automation all at once, and for a while I thought it simply meant being able to control lights from your phone. While I still believe that is an important capability for your home to have, It isn’t the end-game, it is only the beginning of the possibilities. Whether you want to learn more about this whole Home Automation thing or are simply interested in having a DIY mindset, I encourage you to stick around as we explore these avenues together.
